Chapter Three: The Lion and the Lamb

The Excellence of Jesus Christ

When you think of Jesus what comes to mind? Do you picture Him as the one who walked on water, healed the blind and the lame, cast out demons, or as the one who was crucified, beaten, tortured, and rejected by his own people?

It can seem that Scriptures gives us two different pictures of Christ. On one hand we see the powerful and loving Son of God and on the other a meek and humble Savior. Is it no wonder that the world with blinded eyes cannot understand what to make of him?

Fortunately, we do not have to choose one over the other. The Scriptures paints a wonderful picture that depicts both sides of the Son of God: Jesus is both Lion and Lamb! What a wonderful canvas God has created for us! Jesus the Christ, the Promised One, the Messiah is both powerful and meek.

May God give us a fuller understanding and appreciation for Jesus as seek to know him more.

Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” 6 And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain, with seven horns and with seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth.
– Revelation 5:5-6 (ESV)
