“Christ does not exist in order to make much of us”, what a thesis statement! Nothing like stating the facts. In this opening statement, John Piper gives us a much needed attitude adjustment: life is not about us!

I am sure that is news to many of you. It seems like for the better part of our lives everything has been about us individually. The world rotates around us as we act like we are the center of the universe.

However, Scripture says differently. Though we are created in the image of God, we must realize that we were created not the Creator. The second sentence of chapter two states that, “We exist in order to enjoy making much of him.” How well have you done that this week? This month? This year? This life?

Sobering thought isn’t it? Take a moment this week to contemplate the glory of Christ. He is God, the Creator, the Giver of life, the Alpha and Omega.

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power.
– Hebrews 1:3a (ESV)
