Paul cites Scripture to encourage giving generously and freely because God loves a cheerful giver and to remind them that God provides all that is necessary for generosity.
Paul informs them of the envoys he is sending to collect and deliver the financial gift to the churches of Judea.
Paul encourages the Corinthians to live up to the Macedonian example as he sends Titus to finish the collection that the Corinthians had started in 1 Corinthians 16:1-4.

Now, that the Corinthians understand the source of Paul’s boldness and confidence, he now moves to the question of how do we harmonize the never-ending threat of death facing Paul with the ministry of the Spirit?
